Telehealth Success for Kids!
My name is Lee Dal Pra and I'm the Clinical Director and Co-owner at Mind Chicago, and I am here to help you set your child up for telehealth success. So first things first. Make sure your child is in a location in which they feel comfortable sharing important things with their therapist.
Step two, have your child use a computer or a tablet, something with a larger screen. This is important so your therapist can share their screen and do activities with your child. If you must use a smaller device, that's OK. Just let your therapist know so they can adjust their approach.
Step three, make sure your child's wearing headphones. Now, it doesn't have to be a call center headset like I'm wearing, but something in which we can hear your child well and they can hear us well.
Step four, make sure the area is clear of distractions. So this means removing any school books, toys, and even phones so your child can attend to the full session. However, if your child needs a fidget or something else to help them sustain through the session, please allow them to have that. Fidgets are OK.
Sometimes your therapist will even have your child bring in materials. If this is the case, you'll want to make sure that your child is prepared with the correct materials. Even if your therapist doesn't ask your child to bring in anything to the session, please be prepared with paper and a pen or pencil, so your child can do activities alongside your therapist.
And if you need any other assistance helping your child get set up for telehealth, please reach out to us at Mind Chicago via email at hello@mindchicago.com or visit our website to contact us in other ways at www.mindchicago.com. Thank you.
