Therapy + Parent Coaching

Not all therapy is the same.

Treatment that is evidence-based, personalized, and compassionate makes a real difference. We know that’s what you're looking for when worrying about your child. At Mind Chicago, we offer gold-standard, evidence-based therapy for young people ages 2 to 26 struggling with big emotions, worry, sadness, OCD, and ADHD. When individual therapy is inaccessible or when families need alternative approaches, we offer parent-based interventions and coaching.

No matter the approach, our experienced therapists will help you and your family improve communication, increase emotional regulation, and build self-worth!

About our Approach

Our therapists primarily use contextual forms of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). These therapies differ from other approaches because they help kids and families strengthen awareness of their emotions and body, increase acceptance of thoughts and feelings, and take action toward meaningful change.

We understand that some challenges require special approaches. That’s why we have clinicians trained in specialized therapies to manage the symptoms of ADHD and help with other behavioral challenges. Often called Parent Coaching, Parent Management Training (PMT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) are two of the most effective approaches out there that help parents manage tricky child behaviors.

At Mind Chicago, we believe that good therapy means understanding you and your child in the context of your everyday life. We strive to include parents, schools, and other providers in the therapy process. From parent check-ins to school meetings, we know therapy is more than what happens in the office.

Getting Started

We begin therapy with an initial 60-minute intake appointment. Afterward, you will work with your therapist to develop treatment goals and schedule future sessions. At Mind, we believe parent/caregiver involvement is essential to treatment. Our therapists regularly check in with families and may request additional parent-only or family sessions, depending on your individualized treatment plan. You may be asked to help your child practice activities, skills, or exposures outside of the therapy office. Therapy is most effective when kids and families do the therapy homework in-between sessions.
