This educational workshop is for Bernard Zell families only.
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) at Bernard Zell is a two-session educational workshop designed to equip parents with effective strategies to help their child manage anxiety. Developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Center, SPACE teaches parents helpful strategies to support their child in dealing with the challenges associated with anxiety.
This workshop offers an overview of the SPACE approach, explores common patterns around anxiety, and encourages reflection on how parental responses can impact a child’s experience. It's a great starting point for parents interested in learning more about SPACE in a supportive, understanding environment.
Session one:
Introduction to SPACE and anxiety
Learn and practice your first SPACE strategy
Plan for at-home practice over Passover break
Session two:
Understanding the anxiety accommodation cycle
Reflect on your own experiences
Discover more SPACE resources
Location: Bernard Zell School
Dates: Wednesdays, April 9th & Wednesday, April 23rd
Time: 9:00a-10:30a (90-minutes)
Facilitator:SPACE at Bernard Zell is led by a SPACE certified therapist, Dr. Lee Wells, co-owner and clinical director of Mind Chicago. Guest speaker, Dr. David Meyerson, neuropsychologist and co-owner of Mind Chicago, will join session one to speak on anxiety.
Fees: $250 for the full 2-session workshop
Getting Started: Once registered, Dr. Lee Wells will reach out to welcome you to the program and provide you with your welcome packet on Friday, April 4th, 2025 prior to the start of your program.
Group Minimum and Maximum participants: The group requires at least 3 participants to run and will be capped at 12 participants.
This is an educational workshop.
**This SPACE workshop is not a fit for parents of children struggling with severe behavioral challenges, severe psychiatric concerns, or for parents not motivated to learn SPACE.
Payments and Refunds: At registration, you will pay a non-refundable fee of $250 to register for the program. Please note that payments are non-refundable and non-transferable to future workshops. If the therapist(s) of this workshop determines you may benefit from other services and cannot continue in the workshop after the first session, you will be eligible for a full refund. For workshops consisting of 15 or less sessions, there are no refunds or prorated fees for absences.
