Welcome to DnD & DBT: Quest for Connection at Mind Chicago, where we meet weekly for 90 minutes of engaging, skill-building fun. Guided by our expert DBT therapist and Dungeon Master, Jane Kim, this structured group invites young adventurers to embark on an epic journey where the realm of fantasy meet the art of emotional discovery. This innovative group combines the enchanting universe of Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills instruction and practice to help participants navigate their feelings, enhance social skills, and forge lasting friendships.

Our goal is to enhance your child's emotional well-being, equip them with practical coping strategies, and foster stronger connections with both their peers and caregivers. Players will immerse themselves in collaborative storytelling adventures and, together, tackle challenges, solve puzzles, and embark on quests that not only ignite their imaginations but also cultivate teamwork, resilience, and self-awareness..

The DnD & DBT Group is an 11-session therapeutic group designed for 5th – 8th graders who struggle with big emotions, social difficulties, stuck thinking, depression, and anxiety. The group introduces young folks to DBT skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, walking the middle path, and interpersonal effectiveness. In this session, we will focus on INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS SKILLS -- the skills to interact, communicate, and build strong relationships with others. Join us on this transformative quest and unlock the magic within!

Parents will receive bi-weekly video and/or email updates with psychoeducation and practice ideas for home. We also will provide a 60-minute virtual parent session to review all the skills learned and answer skill-related questions.

This group is not well-suited for youth with significant behavioral challenges in group settings, those who flee group settings, children with moderate to high support needs autism spectrum disorders, or those who have a history of aggressively bullying others.

Once you register, a group facilitator will contact you to schedule your group therapy intake.

Dates: 10 in-person 90-minute child sessions from Saturdays, January 11th  – March 15th and one (1) 60-minute virtual parent session TBD.
