Why Do Neuropsychological Testing NOW?

It’s summer. The kids are finally out of school – or whatever that was children were sort of doing from April to June. Now, instead of setting your child’s daily school schedule, making sure they are paying attention to the teacher on the screen, and fighting with them to complete their homework, we can finally get back to normal. Okay, not normal, but you get my drift.

At least, for now, tensions are low(er).

But in a matter of weeks, summer will be over. And the dread you feel about the start of the school year can only be matched by your child’s. What will school look like? What will be expected of my child – of me? How will my child do? Is my child ready?

Anxiety strikes the unprepared first – so what can you and your child do to prepare for the Fall?

While there are several things you and your child can do this summer to get ready for e-learning, in-person, hybrid, or whatever form education comes in this school year, here’s one idea you might not have thought of yet:

Neuropsychological testing.

Not what you had in mind for summer vacation? Let me explain.

Think about the last three months of school. Your child who was doing fairly well in school was now struggling. Or your child who was struggling at the beginning of the school year was now falling apart at the seams. E-learning has brought about a new set of challenges for many students. For others, it has brought to the surface problems that were already bubbling.

A neuropsychological evaluation – through a detailed history of your child’s development, conferences with teachers and others involved in their education and care, and standardized testing – can translate your concerns and your child’s struggles into a nuanced and complete picture of your child’s strengths and challenges. During this “down time,” you can arm yourself with information and prepare for what’s to come.
