SUMMER INTENSIVE OMG – Only Making Gains Kids DBT Group (Aug)
The SUMMER INTENSIVE OMG Kids Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group is a 5-session therapeutic group designed for 5th – 7th grade (and youthful 8th graders) who struggle with big emotions, social difficulties, depression, and anxiety. The group introduces young folks to DBT skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, walking the middle path, and interpersonal effectiveness. In this session, we will focus on INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS SKILLS.
The group meets weekly for 90 minutes daily and is led by an experienced DBT therapist at Mind Chicago. The group is structured and includes age-appropriate psychoeducation, group discussion, and experiential activities to help kids learn and practice skills – while making social connections! The OMG Group aims to help children improve their emotional well-being, develop coping strategies, and build stronger relationships with their peers and caregivers. This is a camp-like atmosphere and includes a light mid-group snack.
Parents receive video and/or email updates with psychoeducation and practice ideas for home. We also provide a 60-minute virtual parent session to review all the skills learned and answer skill-related questions.
This group is not well-suited for youth with significant behavioral challenges in group settings, those who flee group settings, children with moderate to high support need autism spectrum disorders, or those who have a history of aggressively bullying others.

Dates: 5 in-person child sessions from Monday, August 12th - Friday, August 16th and 1 virtual parent session TBD

Price: This program requires a non-refundable $330 deposit, including the 30-minute group intake and the first two (2) therapy sessions. After which, you will be charged the remaining balance of $415 of the five 90-minute child sessions and one 60-minute parent session program one week before the start of group.
Payments and Refunds: At registration, you will pay a non-refundable deposit of $330 to hold your child's spot. The remaining payment will be billed to your card on file one week before the start of your program. Please note that payments are non-refundable and non-transferable to future groups. If you wish to withdraw and provide notice more than 72 hours before a group begins, you will be eligible for a partial refund (full payment minus the intake fee). If the therapist(s) of this group determine your child may benefit from other services and cannot continue in group after the first session, you will be eligible for a partial refund (full payment minus intake fee). For group therapy sessions consisting of 10 or less sessions, please note that the group fee is not prorated for any absences (planned or unplanned), and no refunds will be issued for missed sessions, given the limited number of clients participating.
